Instructions for Soap Making
-
Cover the work surface with the included plastic sheet and prepare all the tools from the set on it. If the silicone molds are dusty, wash them with soapy water and dry them before pouring.
-
Melt the soap base in a water bath. Place the soap base cubes in a smaller saucepan and that in a larger saucepan with water. Begin heating. The water must not boil! The soap base typically melts at 80 °C. If you don't have a thermometer, it's approximately when bubbles appear in the water, but it's not boiling yet. The soap base must not bubble, as the finished soap would then sweat. There's no need to stir the base, as you'd mix in unnecessary bubbles.
! WARNING: This step must not be done by children without supervision. There's a risk of scalding when heating and subsequently handling the base, so take care to protect yourself and proceed cautiously when making soaps. -
Once the base has melted, remove it from the water bath and gradually pour it into cups as needed. The base hardens quickly, so the unused base can remain in the heating vessel until you need it.
-
Add ingredients (each set contains different ingredients and decorations, not all listed items may be in your set):
Scents – The aromas are highly concentrated, so only a few drops are needed. Drip into the base and stir.
Colorants – Add liquid colorants drop by drop, powder add in small amounts, and stir continuously until the desired shade is reached.
Herbs – Stir into the base in the cup or sprinkle onto the still liquid base poured into the silicone mold.
Glitter – Add into the cup with the liquid base and stir, or sprinkle onto the finished soap using a brush.
-
Pour into molds. If you have molds with fine details, ensure the base reaches everywhere. You can use a pipette to fill smaller areas. The molds do not require greasing; they just need to be clean and dry.
-
Let it harden. The hardening time depends on the size of the mold (and the resulting soap). For a small mold, it takes about an hour. To check if the soap is hard, gently touch the surface or lightly squeeze the edges. Allow the base to harden at room temperature. Do not attempt to accelerate hardening by placing it in the refrigerator; doing so might cause the soap to lose some significant components.
-
Carefully remove the soap from the mold and ideally let it rest for 1-2 weeks in a dry place at room temperature; it will become firmer.
-
Store the soaps at room temperature in a place that is neither too warm nor too moist. If making the soap as a gift, wrap it in an organza bag; after resting, you can also use cellophane.
WARNING: Store the soap base and the soap made from this base wrapped to prevent weight loss due to water evaporation.
