Procedure for making soaps
-
Cover the work surface with the included foil and prepare all the tools in the kit. If the silicone moulds are dusty, wash them with spring water and dry them before casting.
-
Heat the soap mass in a water bath. Place the soap cubes in a smaller saucepan and place this in a larger saucepan of water. Start heating. Do not boil the water! The soap mass usually dissolves at 80 °C. If you don't have a thermometer, that's about the time when bubbles appear in the water, but it's not boiling yet. The soap mass must not bubble, the finished soap would then become dewy. There is no need to stir the mass, you would mix in unnecessary bubbles.
! WARNING: This step must not be done by unsupervised children. There is a risk of scalding when heating and then handling the material, take care to protect yourself and use caution when making soaps. -
Once the mixture has dissolved, remove it from the water bath and gradually pour into the cups as needed. The mass solidifies quickly, so the unprocessed mass can remain in the heating vessel until you need it.
-
Add ingredients (each kit contains different ingredients and decorations, your kit may not have all of the above):
Aroma - the aromas are very concentrated, so only a few drops are enough. Drizzle into the mass and stir.
Dyes - Add liquid dyes a few drops at a time, add bulk dyes a little at a time and stir continuously until you reach the desired shade.
Herbs - stir them into the mixture in the cup or pour them over the still liquid mixture poured into the silicone mould.
Glitter - add to the cup with the liquid mass and stir, or use a brush to pour onto the finished soap.
-
Pour into molds. If you have moulds with small details, make sure that the mass gets everywhere. You can use a pipette to fill in the smaller spots. The moulds are not erased, they just need to be clean and dry.
-
Let it harden. The setting time depends on the size of the mould (and the resulting soap). For a small mold, it's about an hour. If you want to see if the soap is stiff, gently feel the surface or lightly squeeze the edges. Allow the mass to solidify at room temperature. Do not try to speed up the setting, for example by putting it in the fridge. This could deprive the soap of some important ingredients.
-
Carefully remove the soap from the mould and leave it in a dry place at room temperature for 1-2 weeks, it will be firmer then.
-
Store soaps at room temperature in a place that is neither too warm nor too humid. If you are making the soap as a gift, wrap it in an organza bag, you can also wrap it in cellophane after it has aged.
WARNING: Store the soap base and soap made from this soap base wrapped to prevent weight loss through evaporation of water.
