Product detailed description

The 5-five epoxy resin is a unique product that allows waterproofing up to 5 cm thick, does not yellow and is resistant to mechanical damage. It is suitable for working at ambient temperatures up to 30 °C. It is an excellent choice if you want to create tables, boards, pyramids and other resin and wood products in the summer.

It is fully transparent and can be applied in layers of about 5 cm. In the case of higher castings, we recommend casting it in layers, after partial or complete hardening of the bottom layer. It can be well coloured and pigmented. Cures in approx. 48 hours, is easy to work and polish. It has excellent mechanical properties, high strength and cohesion. The cured resin surface resists scratching and other non-critical damage. Due to its low viscosity it removes air bubbles well during the curing process.

Specifications

  • The maximum layer thickness is about 5 cm.
  • The minimum layer thickness is 1 cm.
  • The maximum casting volume is:
    up to a height of 2 cm 70 kg;
    up to a height of 3 cm 20 kg;
    up to a height of 4 cm 14 kg;
    up to a height of 5 cm 10 kg.
  • After curing, it has a fully transparent, solid and mirror-gloss surface.
  • It is UV stable and resistant to humidity from the air (reduces water spots, loss of gloss and yellowing).
  • It is suitable for transparent and coloured castings, it is well coloured with dyes and pigments from our offer.
  • Processing time: 2 hours, 23 °C (100 g, 23 °C).
  • Curing time for demoulding: 48 hrs. Final curing and completion of all bonds in the resin takes 10-14 days, at which time the resin can be sanded or objects can be placed on it (applies to curing at a constant temperature of 20 - 25 °C).
  • It is self-levelling and well flowable.
  • It is solvent-free, phenolic-free and virtually odourless.
  • It can be used for watering all types of materials (wood, concrete, glass, etc.).
  • Mixture viscosity: 400 mPa.s.
  • Resulting hardness: 90 Shore D.

Processing and applications

First mix the two ingredients in a mixing ratio of 100 : 55 by weight. Each ingredient needs to be carefully weighed in grams. First, pour and weigh the required amount of component A into the container (clean and dry), reset the balance and pour and weigh the required amount of component B. Use our calculation table to help you calculate the required weight of components A and B. The two components are mixed for 3-4 minutes (alternate clockwise and counterclockwise mixing, scraping the material from the sides and bottom of the container). After mixing, it is recommended to transfer the mixture into another clean and dry container, stir again and then apply.

If the mass is cast into moulds, it is advisable to use a silicone mould. In the case of moulds made of other materials, a separator must be used for easy removal from the mould. We do not recommend using glass containers as a mould, they may crack when the resin cures. When porous materials (wood, concrete) are poured, air bubbles are released into the cast material, therefore it is necessary to penetrate these objects. Penetration of porous materials can be done with a special primer, or you can paint them with a thin layer of resin and after it hardens, such items can be molded into the desired product.

To ensure optimum consistency and quality of the result after application, it is necessary to ensure sufficient temperature of the environment and the material (approx. 20 °C) during mixing. Low temperatures have a significantly negative effect on the final result.

After mixing the components, the resin cures in 48 hours, but we recommend to mechanically process the product (sanding and polishing) only after 12-14 days from the moment of pouring.

The recommended casting thickness is for a standard product that consists of 25-30% resin and 75-70% wood or various fillers such as stones, artificial flowers, metal parts, cork, etc. When pouring slabs of more than 1.2 metres in length, it is strongly recommended to work in two stages to avoid overheating the product. First pour a 3 cm thick layer. The next day, pour a second layer of 2-3 cm.

Attention

  • Observe the processing time, do not work with the finished mixture for more than 2 hours. If this time is not observed, the products may not have the necessary properties (the finished products may be brittle) and the resin may start to heat up rapidly in the mixing vessel in a higher layer ( exothermic reaction) and deteriorate.
  • The resin may become cloudy when stored at temperatures below 20 °C. This is a common phenomenon, before use, place the sealed bottle with ingredient A in a warm water bath (50 - 70 °C) for 20-30 minutes and the cloudiness will disappear. Prevent water from entering the resin bottle. After removing from the bath, allow to cool and then use.
  • Hot objects such as tea cups must not be placed on the finished resin products. The product could be damaged.

Security measures

  • We recommend that children under 18 years of age, pregnant and nursing women work with epoxy resin only with skin and respiratory protection, and that children work only under adult supervision.
  • In case of eye contact, flush with plenty of water. Avoid swallowing or inhaling material; if swallowed or if mucous membranes are affected, seek medical attention.
  • Wash your hands thoroughly after work, especially before eating. Do not smoke, drink or eat while creating the product.
  • Work in a well-ventilated area with (important!) low humidity (no more than 30-40%).
  • The temperature must be no lower than 20 °C and no higher than 25-27 °C.
  • Only wear gloves, the resin can cause an allergic reaction on the skin.
  • We recommend protecting your respiratory tract with a respirator or full-face mask with a vapour filter.
