Resin is an excellent material for creating glowing decorations and products that can add a magical touch to your home. Here are three original ways to use resin to make glowing products.
1. Mixing in fluorescent powder
The first way to create a glowing resin product involves mixing fluorescent powder directly into the resin. Fluorescent powder reacts to UV light and creates an effective glowing surface.
Procedure:
- Mix the resin according to the instructions on the packaging.
- Add fluorescent powder to the resin mixture and stir until the powder is evenly distributed.
- Pour the mixture into a mold and let it harden.
After the product has hardened, you can use UV light to activate the fluorescent effect, or let it be illuminated by sunlight. The amount of powder used affects how brightly the product will glow. But be careful not to exceed the maximum recommended amount specified by the manufacturer!
2. Embedding an LED string directly into the resin
The second method involves embedding an LED string directly into the resin, creating a glowing element with integrated lighting. The downside of this method is that once the light string fails, it cannot be replaced.
Procedure:
- Before pouring, check the functionality of the LED string.
- Place the LED string in the mold so that it is evenly distributed. To shape it, you can first wrap it around any object, then remove the shaped wire and place it in the silicone mold.
- Pour the resin into the mold so that it covers the LED string and let it harden. Be careful not to cover the wire's connector that plugs into the power source.

3. Creating a product with replaceable LED lights
The third method allows you to create a glowing product with replaceable LED lights, which is useful if you want to change the lighting color according to mood or environment or replace LED lights that have dimmed over time.
Procedure:
- Create a mold for the product with a hole for inserting the LED light. You can use a purchased silicone mold, such as a cube, and press a smaller silicone mold into the surface of the cast resin to create the opening for the LED light. You can also custom-make the part that creates the hole from liquid silicone. The hole should be large enough to accommodate either the entire LED strip including the switch.
- Pour the resin into the mold and let it cure.
- If the hole is not large enough to fit the switch or if it is not desirable, you will need to make a groove in the hardened product for the power cable.
With these three creative methods, you can use resin to create glowing products that add uniqueness to your space. Be creative and experiment with different colors, shapes, and lighting to create a product that perfectly fits your environment.
