Product detailed description
The advantage of Start epoxy resin is a good price/performance ratio, as its use is universal and the price is low. This resin is characterized by its low viscosity, which reduces the formation of air bubbles when mixing the components and makes it easier to impregnate various materials with the resin.
It is not fully transparent and can be applied in layers of about 10-15 mm. In the case of higher castings, we recommend casting it in layers, after partial or complete hardening of the bottom layer. For higher end products, clouding may occur with uncoloured resin. The resin is very fluid and has self-leveling properties. It has a very nice surface even without machining. It can be well coloured and pigmented. Cures in approx. 24 hours, is easy to work and polish. It has excellent mechanical properties, high strength and cohesion.
Specifications
- The maximum layer thickness is about 15 mm.
- The maximum casting volume is 1 kg.
- After curing it has a transparent, firm and glossy surface.
- Not UV stable, slightly yellowish in larger volumes.
- It is suitable for colored castings, it is well colored with dyes and pigments from our offer.
- Processing time: 10 - 20 minutes (200 g, 23 °C).
- Curing time for moulding: 15 - 24 hours (depending on ambient temperature and amount of material to be cast). Final curing and completion of all bonds in the resin takes 10-14 days, at which time the resin can be sanded or objects can be placed on it (applies to curing at a constant temperature of 20 - 25 °C).
- A very fluid and well-rounded system.
- It is solvent-free, phenolic-free and virtually odourless.
- It can be used for watering all types of materials (wood, concrete, glass, etc.).
- Viscosity: approx. 450 mPa.s (resin); approx. 30 mPa.s (hardener).
- Density of the mixture 1 - 1.05 g/cm3.
- Resulting hardness 75 Shore D.
What does UV stable/unstable resin mean?
The resins without additives to ensure UV stability yellow to a richer yellow colour. The resins with these additives provide longer protection against yellowing and only yellow to a slight tinge of yellow over time. How to ensure that the UV stable resin product is free of this breath as long as possible? Do not expose the products to direct sunlight, which interferes with the protective UV barrier.
Processing and applications
First, mix the two ingredients in a mixing ratio of 100 : 23 by weight. Each ingredient needs to be carefully weighed in grams. First, pour and weigh the required amount of component A into the container (clean and dry), reset the balance and pour and weigh the required amount of component B. Use our calculation table to help you calculate the required weight of components A and B. The two components are mixed for 3-4 minutes (alternate clockwise and counterclockwise mixing, scraping the material from the sides and bottom of the container). After mixing, it is recommended to transfer the mixture into another clean and dry container, stir again and then apply.
If the mass is cast into moulds, it is advisable to use a silicone mould. In the case of moulds made of other materials, a separator must be used for easy removal from the mould. We do not recommend using glass containers as a mould, they may crack when the resin cures. When porous materials (wood, concrete) are poured, air bubbles are released into the cast material, therefore it is necessary to penetrate these objects. Penetration of porous materials can be done with a special primer, or you can paint them with a thin layer of resin and after it hardens, such items can be molded into the desired product.
To ensure optimum consistency and quality of the result after application, it is necessary to ensure sufficient temperature of the environment and the material (approx. 20 °C) during mixing. Low temperatures have a significantly negative effect on the final result. Resin is more prone to "trapping" moisture from the air, as a result, water spots can form on the surface of the finished product. It is therefore important to prevent moisture from reaching the surface, especially in the rainy season. The products must be covered during the curing process or sanded and polished after curing. Alternatively, you can cover the product with a final layer of crystal resin Fluid. which creates a mirror-like, stain-free surface.
If there is more humidity in the room where your workspace is, we recommend trying resin Fluid.
Attention
- Observe the processing time, do not work with the finished mixture for more than 20 minutes. If this time is not observed, the products may not have the necessary properties (the finished products may be brittle) and the resin may start to heat up rapidly in the mixing vessel in a higher layer ( exothermic reaction) and deteriorate.
- Hot objects such as tea cups must not be placed on the finished resin products. The product could be damaged.
- The resin may become cloudy when stored at temperatures below 20 °C. This is a common phenomenon, before use, place the sealed bottle with ingredient A in a warm water bath (50 - 70 °C) for 20-30 minutes and the cloudiness will disappear. Prevent water from entering the resin bottle. After removing from the bath, allow to cool and then use.
- When using alcohol inks, you may see a temporary change in colour (e.g. blue to orange). During the curing process, however, the colours will revert to their shades.
Security measures
- We recommend that children under 18 years of age, pregnant and nursing women work with epoxy resin only with skin and respiratory protection, and that children work only under adult supervision.
- In case of eye contact, flush with plenty of water. Avoid swallowing or inhaling material; if swallowed or if mucous membranes are affected, seek medical attention.
- Wash your hands thoroughly after work, especially before eating. Do not smoke, drink or eat while creating the product.
- Work in a well-ventilated area with (important!) low humidity (no more than 30-40%).
- The temperature must be no lower than 20 °C and no higher than 25-27 °C.
- Only wear gloves, the resin can cause an allergic reaction on the skin.
- We recommend protecting your respiratory tract with a respirator or full-face mask with a vapour filter.
