How to choose epoxy resin - a guide to selecting epoxy resin

Do you want to start casting epoxy resin and don’t know which one to choose? The choice is easier than it might seem! Check out our guide on how to buy the right resin and achieve the best results.

What will you be making?

The first stop on our journey to choosing the right resin begins with clarifying what you will be making. Will it be earrings, coasters, or pyramids? Are you up for making tables, serving boards, or geode paintings? Always clarify what product or products you want to create. Have you decided? Great, let’s look at choosing the resin.

The correct pouring height

In most cases, we choose resin that can be poured to the same height or higher than the height of the mold. Each of the resins has pictograms on its introductory image that will quickly guide you in the right direction, and everything is detailed in the description of each resin.

If you want to cast bookmarks, a resin suitable for lower thicknesses will work great. Will it be pyramids? Check for a higher pouring thickness. Will it be multiple products with varying thicknesses? Then choose a resin for higher columns, as it can easily handle lower products as well.
A guide for selecting resin based on the product can also help you.

The column is indicated by the pictogram “layer thickness” as shown in the images above.

Why is it important not to exceed the recommended pouring height and volume?

Exceeding the height in the resin would accelerate the reaction that causes the resin to harden and lead to an undesirable exothermic reaction. Read more about the exothermic reaction here.

We’ve covered the pre-selection of resin based on pouring height, but it’s still not clear which one is best? Click on the description of each resin to read more about its properties. All our descriptions are created to ensure all information is together and understood by both professionals and beginners.

What other properties should we consider when choosing resin?

You might be interested in how thick the resin is, its protection against yellowing, and how long it takes to cure. Different properties might be important for different projects.

Do you want the resin to remain clear over time because you’re casting clear earrings with dried flowers? Find a resin in our range that is ideal for such products. Will you be coloring the resin with pigments? Then you don’t need to worry as much about UV stability.

Have you chosen the right resin?

Great! You’re one step closer to creating your perfect product.
