Production process
- When painting with epoxy resin on a PVC board, no special surface preparation is required; you can pour the resin directly onto the board. Our PVC boards are also coated with a protective film on one side*, so you don’t need to tape it off, and you can easily peel off the hardened resin from this side.
*Check product labels, assortment may change. - Place the board on cups or another support with the viewing side up. The side with the protective film has a sticker and should be facing down. Use a spirit level to ensure the board is perfectly level.
- Mix the epoxy resin Sea&Geode according to the instructions. For a 30 cm board, 200 grams of resin is sufficient. We use this resin because it is very thick, so it doesn't run much and allows for interesting patterns when colors blend. It is also suitable for creating resin ocean effects.
- Divide the resin into several cups. Color some of the resin; you can also leave some uncolored. If you are using pebbles to create a geode, sprinkle the pebbles into a cup and add a small amount of resin. The goal is to coat the pebbles with resin but not have them floating in it. This is the only way to achieve a geode appearance and avoid resin puddles under the pebbles.
The color scheme depends on your preference. You can use any color for resin.
- Place the resin-coated pebbles on the board and arrange them.
- Pour the resin into all the areas where there are no pebbles and smooth it out with a spatula. You can also blow on it with a hairdryer or heat gun to create interesting color blends.
- Let the resin sit for 10-15 minutes and remove surface bubbles with quick movements of the torch lighter. Never hold the lighter in one spot to avoid damaging the resin. Repeat bubble removal after another 15 minutes.
- Cover the artwork to protect it from dust.
- After curing for about 24 hours, you can add lines with a metallic marker.
- Carefully remove the protective film from the back of the artwork. In areas where there is excess resin, it may be more difficult to release the resin even if there is film underneath. Heat it with a lighter, hairdryer, or heat gun to make it come off more easily.
- Attach a hook to the back of the PVC board, or lean it against a wall.
