Products made from epoxy resin with glitter have a sparkle and charm. However, they also have one problem that creators face, which is the settling of glitter at the bottom of the resin. Here are four tips to help you keep glitter beautifully dispersed in your epoxy resin projects.
Tip #1: Use high-viscosity resin
The viscosity of your resin plays a crucial role in preventing glitter from sinking. High-viscosity resin is thicker and doesn't give glitter much chance to sink to the bottom. The thickest resin in our offer is Sea&Geode. However, note that due to its thickness, it not only holds glitter but also bubbles that you mix into it.
Tip #2: Layered casting
Another effective method to prevent glitter from sinking is layered casting. This technique involves pouring a thin layer of resin, sprinkling it with glitter, and letting it cure completely or at least to the gel phase before adding another layer. This method not only prevents glitter from sinking but also creates a beautiful depth effect in your projects.
Tip #3: Add glitter during the gel phase
Timing is everything, especially when it comes to adding glitter to resin. If you add it too early, it will sink to the bottom; if you add it too late, it will stay on the surface. The trick is to wait until the resin starts to thicken but is not yet hard. This usually happens about 30-60 minutes after mixing the resin, but it can vary depending on the type of resin and the room and mass temperature. Experiment with your resin to find the perfect timing.
Tip #4: Choose the right type of glitter
Not all glitters are the same. Some are heavier than others and will sink faster in resin. For epoxy resin projects, it is best to use fine glitter, as it is lighter and less likely to sink. However, if you prefer larger glitter, you can still use it, but you will need to be more careful with timing and possibly use the layered casting technique.
