What is epoxy resin or epoxy? What is the difference between epoxy, resin, and crystal resin?

What is meant by the term epoxy?

The term epoxy, or epoxy resin, refers to epoxy resin, which is a clear, synthetic polymer material. It belongs to the category of thermosets, materials that can be hardened through heat, radiation, or the action of a catalyst.

Hardening creates a three-dimensional network within the material, resulting in interesting properties such as chemical resistance, shape stability, insolubility, and, importantly, good thermal resistance. These resinous materials have more than one epoxy bond. Thermosets are characterized by excellent adhesion to many types of materials.

What is the difference between the terms epoxy, resin, and crystal resin?

If you are looking for information about epoxy, you will encounter all of these terms. You may also come across terms like synthetic resin, casting resin, and pouring resin. However, all these terms refer to the same product, and there is no difference between them.

How does the resin harden?

Epoxy resin, as mentioned, is a synthetic resin used for many different purposes.

Epoxy is created by mixing two complementary components (components A and B). When liquid resin is mixed with a suitable hardener, which is an essential component for mixing two-component epoxy resins and fillers, a chemical reaction occurs, usually lasting several hours to days. After mixing these components, the material changes from a liquid to a solid state at the correct temperature. To achieve complete hardening, the mixing ratio of resin to hardener must always be precise, as specified by the manufacturer.

Why is it important to choose a special resin for a specific project?

Given that there are many different types of resins, these types have varying properties and can be used for different applications according to the manufacturer's specifications. These resins can also differ significantly in the curing process, affecting the final hardness, thermal resistance, or UV resistance. Other properties to consider when choosing the right epoxy resin include curing time and the maximum layer thickness that can be applied to the intended material.

What are the advantages of epoxy?

Epoxy resin is known for its many uses. Its advantages lie in the unique properties mentioned above, which are not found in other materials. It has excellent adhesion, is resistant to chemicals, weather conditions, and protects against corrosion.

What can I make with resin?

You can use epoxy resin to make or modify your own jewelry, various unique items, paintings, original gifts, and decorations. It is also used in artistic creation such as Resin Art and Geode Art. For resin jewelry, epoxy resin tables, and general creative projects involving resin, we use casting resins from specialty stores like Resin Studio.

At Resin Studio, we offer not only epoxy resins but also resin molds, 3D silicone molds, metallic markers, UV resins, dried flowers for resin, metal powders, and other supplies for resin decoration making.

Besides hobby use, epoxy resin is also used as an adhesive, coating material, or construction material.
